Biography is a peculiar literary form. It is justified on two counts. First it must meet the criteria of accuracy and elegance of literary style. Having met or failed these, the work must then be subjected to the question of whether or not the subject, the biographee, is of sufficient interest or importance to have warranted the effort. Evaluation on both of these counts is essential to the assessment of the present work.
