Interbrew N.V. vice chairman Hans Meerlo, who engineered the Belgian brewer's acquisition of John Labatt Ltd., has resigned in an apparent dispute with the Interbrew company's family shareholders.
Analysts said that Meerlo's abrupt departure highlights Interbrew's lack of a clear global strategy after acquiring the Canadian brewer, a move that has pushed the Belgian company into the top tier of the world brewing business.
Since completing the $1.98 billion acquisition in July, Interbrew hasn't announced any moves to integrate the companies or unveiled any global marketing plans.
