Small business owners in Oregon adamantly oppose the idea of creating a payroll deduction to fund family leave for employees taking time off work to care for new children or ailing family members, according to a poll released Thursday by a small business association.
Last year, the state Legislature narrowly defeated a bill that would have collected a penny per hour worked from each worker whose employer has at least 25 employees. The money would have been pooled by the state and paid out at $250 a week for up to six weeks to workers taking family leave.
