A former detective inspector has been paid [pounds sterling]5,000 by West Yorkshire Police for hurt feelings.
The sum is part of a "moderate" settlement to be paid to retired officer Terence Homer over claims he was under-paid because he did not have a law degree.
An employment tribunal heard how Mr Homer, 63, retired from the West Yorkshire force in 1995 after a distinguished 30-year career.
He was then employed as a legal adviser with the police national legal database.
