Where was I? Ah yes, last month I was telling you of the circumstances of my starting up--just thirty years ago--as a dance critic based in New York City. Unexpectedly, I found myself virtually writing a chapter of memoirs, probably of markedly more interest to me than to my readers. I had initially intended to write merely a few paragraphs of introduction to some kind of personal survey as to how the New York dance world (and, indeed, those parallel worlds within the entire dance galaxy) had changed over the past thirty years.
