Angola's new found peace remains paper thin. Despite earlier assurances to the contrary, Unita is making increasing demands, including the right to take over the country's diamond industry.
Although the UN monitoring mission to Angola, Unavem III, has had its mandate extended until February 1996, its effectiveness has been put into question. Breaches of the recently brokered ceasefire have intensified as the warring factions once again strive to gain control of Angola's diamond industry in Lunda Norte and Sul.
