PHILADELPHIA--A new draft model act targeting unfair insurer discrimination of victims of abuse was released by a working group of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners at its fall meeting.
The model is intended to protect victims of physical or sexual abuse from losing insurance or paying higher premiums based solely on their status as abuse victims.
The working group's action immediately drew criticism from representatives of both the property and casualty and life and health industries.
One p-c representative assalled the model on jurisdictional grounds, saying it was being drafted by an NAIC group with no authority over p-c matters. ...
