To help improve the Master Address File (MAF), the U.S. Census Bureau has invited representatives of tribal, state, and local governments to review the Census address lists for their area. In South Dakota, fourteen counties, seventy-seven cities and towns, and fourteen townships have signed up to participate in the Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) as of January 4, 2007. By reviewing and commenting on the Census list of housing units and group quarters, local governments are contributing to a more complete and accurate census for their community in 2010.
