Over the past 10-15 years, college accounting programs have faced declining enrollments, although some are now beginning to rebound. Part of the problem, at least in South Dakota, has been mandated curriculum changes at the secondary education level. Now more than ever before, additional courses are being required in math, science, English, and foreign languages, at least for those choosing a college preparatory track, leaving less time for business electives.
