REDMOND, Wash.--Nintendo of America's recent decision to cut $20 off the suggested retail price of its Virtual Boy video game system was prompted by consumer concern over the cost of next-generation systems, according to the company.

The 32-bit, portable Virtual Boy, which came out at $179.95 two months ago, is now $159.95.

"We understand consumers are concerned about how much the `next-generation' systems cost," said Peter Main, Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "The recent changes in the yen/ U.S. dollar have now allowed us to pack even greater value into this new technology product."
