The value of Qatari projects awarded to the region's top contractors has more than doubled over the past year, from $3.2bn in 2006 to $7.3bn in 2007. With a limited number of local firms competing in the market, international rivals have stepped in.
The firm with the greatest presence is Consolidated Contracting Company (CCC), which, according to the survey, is the third-largest contractor in the region by the value of new project wins. In Qatar, the majority of CCC's new project workload of $1.6bn is for infrastructure work at Ras Laffan, including civils and sewage work, pipelines and onshore facilities.
