It is the mother of all book tours.
Gen. Colin Powell's record-breaking tour for his autobiography, ``My American Journey,'' swept into California on Tuesday with the swiftness of a military operation and, more to the point, the hoopla of a presidential campaign.
``We're very, very excited to have him,'' says Kristin Stiles-Hall of Warwick's Books in La Jolla, Calif., where Powell's appearance Wednesday is likely to top previous visits by Margaret Thatcher, who sold about 1,000 copies of ``The Path to Power,'' and Newt Gingrich, who sold 500-600 copies of ``To Renew America.''
