IT took 74 years, but the U.S. cattle herd officially became free of cattle brucellosis when the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Feb. 1 that Texas was the final state to be declared brucellosis Class Free.
Now, USDA said, all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have simultaneously achieved the much-sought status, some areas for more than 25 years (Map).
"This tremendous achievement could not have been accomplished without the combined efforts of state and federal agencies and industry," said Bruce Knight, undersecretary for USDA's marketing and regulatory programs mission area.
