Sept. 30--Philip Morris USA, faced with major overtime costs, announced yesterday that it will add a total of 550 jobs at its cigarette factories in North Carolina and Kentucky.
While the company did not announce any local hiring, workers at the South Richmond Manufacturing Center were told yesterday that Philip Morris is embarking on a major capital spending plan to add "new high-speed equipment," according to a factory source.
Philip Morris officials did not return phone calls yesterday. The nation's largest cigarette company will add 400 jobs at the Cabarrus Manufacturing Center, near Charlotte, N.C. It will add another 150 positions at its smallest ...
