MARK Cavendish was fourth in stage two of the Tour of California yesterday, but missed a chance to win the stage.
The 22-year-old Team High Road pro was up with the leaders as the 187km stage from Santa Rosa to Sacramento came down to a bunch sprint.
After feeling ill during the rain-lashed stage, he offered to lead out team-mate Gerald Ciolek in the sprint but the German lost Cav's wheel on the final corner and decided to let the gap go.
Cavendish thought he was leading out his team-mate but then made the mistake of sitting up when Ciolek did not come past.
He tried to accelerate again to win the stage but was beaten by Belgian Tom ...
