The ambitious plan to redevelop a Preston park by hanging metal letters from trees has been branded "daft" and "self indulgent" by a leading conservationist.
Winckley Square, in the heart of a city centre conservation area, is set for a [pounds sterling]3m revamp after years of decay.
But some of the proposed features, which include scattered metal letters that spell out the words 'Winckley Square' set in trees and on walls, have caused a stir.
The plans also include fibre optic lights, granite lettering water jets and a performance area which doubles as a water feature.
