NEW YORK - Melville Corp. is selling its Marshalls and Wilsons chains but won't call it quits in apparel retailing. It's rolling out Bob's Stores, a discount superstore purchased in 1990, which emphasizes athletic and casual footwear and apparel.

The division will finish 1995 with 34 stores, up from 20 last year, and could be further expanded as Melville restructures its retail operations.

On Tuesday, Melville said Bob's and Linens 'n Things will be grouped in a holding company anchored by the CVS drugstore chain, its largest division. Other proposed Melville divisions will contain footwear and toy retailing units.
