NLC leaders met with the leaders of the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the Conference of Mayors (USCM) to Plan a Conference of Local Governments that will address changing roles and responsibilities of local governments. The conference, which Will be held in Chicago November 13 and 14, will focus on unfunded mandates, investment in the future, and localism.
Noting that the American people "are tired of the elephants and tired of the donkeys," Chicago Mayor and host Richard Daley called the November meeting "an opportunity for leadership."
