Pensioners across Northampton have called for extra cash being saved in the National Insurance fund to go towards alleviating poverty among the elderly.
The National Pensioners Convention (NPC) has made the call after the latest Government forecasts revealed the surplus in the NI fund has been rising by more than double that of expenditure.
Surplus in the fund has now reached [pounds sterling]38billion, and that amount has been forecast to top [pounds sterling]114billion in the next five years.
Harry Tuttle, from Northamptonshire Pensioners' Voice, said the extra cash should be spent on lifting pensioners out of poverty.
