COCKER spaniel Rusty was hounded out of Police work, but now he could be crowned Top Dog of Europe.
Police were barking up the wrong tree when they picked out Rusty for drugs busting as he was too dog-tired.
But now the proud pooch is ready to take the lead in a spot on prime-time TV.
His young owner Rebecca Ashworth, of Mile Road, Widdrington Station, has put the spaniel through his paces with agility and handling practice, show training and even modelling.
And now the pair will appear on Animal Planet's Top Dog programme, pitting their skills against some of the country's most talented pets.
