MERCER ISLAND -- A handful of Mercer Island boys' basketball players once lost a championship game to Inglemoor on a heartbreaking buzzer-beater and vowed to make things different the next time around.
That was in eighth grade. The pact holds true today.
"Ever since that day we've been talking about how we never want to lose the championship again," said guard Leroy Lutu, one of 11 seniors on the Mercer Island roster and one of nine Islanders who have played together since sixth grade.
