On Jan. 15, Friends of Magnuson Park filed a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Seattle to stop planned improvements to 65 acres of wetland/upland habitat, access improvements, a nature reserve, stream restoration, bathroom repair and sports fields.
Land uses at Sand Point have included a sawmill, a brick company, a county airport, a naval air station and now the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Warren G. Magnuson Park. Dramatic shoreline changes occurred when Lake Washington was lowered by 9 feet. Much of the peninsula was flattened and paved for the airfield. In 1972 ...
