MORE than 200 British jobs are at risk as Smoby, the French firm behindsome of Europe's most popular toys for toddlers, faces ruin. A commercial courtin the Jura region of eastern France will rule tomorrow on who will take overthe manufacturer, which is in administration. Smoby's products are sold throughleading UK retailers such as Toys R Us and Mothercare as well as departmentstores.

The choice for the court is between French holding company Abcia, Germantoymaker Simba and an investment fund called M129. But because all three intendto halve Smoby's worldwide workforce of 2,750, the judges may rule that none ofthe bidders is acceptable. ...
