I am on Coldharbour Lane in South London's Brixton, the original "front line," which, in 1984, was the location of full-scale urban riots. Although the area has long since been gentrified with smart bars and restaurants, the urban tension can still be felt beneath the polished exterior. Police tend to move in pairs and often look fearful, uncomfortable, excluded.
