NEW ORLEANS -- Substituting low-energy-density foods for higher-energy-density foods is a good way of moderating caloric intake among young children, results of a small study suggest.

Decreasing the energy density of multiple meals served over 2 days reduced energy intake by about 200 kcal each day in children attending a day care center, according to Barbara J. Rolls, Ph.D., Helen A. Guthrie Chair and Professor, department of nutritional sciences, Pennsylvania State University, Hershey.
