The number of flights landing at and leaving from Logan International Airport plummeted 10 percent in January compared to January 2007, the airport's biggest decline in operations since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Rising fuel costs forced airlines to cut back schedules and prompted Big Sky Airlines to cease its East Coast operations altogether.
Logan landings and departures totaled 28,675 flights in January, down from 31,857 in 2007. An 11.5 percent drop in domestic flights was slightly offset by a 5.1 percent rise in international flights, as service was added to Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
