Electric power steering is pushing hydraulic steering-assist systems off the road, say researchers.
As electric system technology improves and carmakers recognise its potential to help them reach CO2-emission targets, energy-hungry hydraulic power steering is fading.
Steering system supplier TRW Automotive predicts that within a decade all European cars will have some form of electric power steering, with only a few using compromise electro-hydraulic versions.
