In an attempt to strengthen links with the European Union on gender equality issues, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) opened a new office in Brussels on 5 March. According to Joanne Sandler, ad interim executive director of UNIFEM, the new office should increase the fund's visibility in Europe, link successful international strategies and help coordinate international funding of aid programmes on gender equality.
