MINNEAPOLIS: THE FAA IS MOVING QUICKLY TO SHIFT FROM AIR TRAFFIC "CONTROL" TO AIR TRAFFIC "MANAGEMENT" WITHIN US AIRSPACE
A specially appointed task force will submit its final report and recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the end of this month on the implementation of "free flight" in US airspace - a radical concept that could completely overturn current air traffic control practices. Virtually unknown inside Washington only two years ago, free flight is on the point of becoming the fully funded future of US ATC.
