In April 2007, thousands of Canadians made the journey to a windswept hill in France to rededicate our national war monument and to remember the soldiers lost there on a cold Easter morning some ninety years ago. In the past year, Canadians have heard a great deal about the meticulous restoration of the Vimy Ridge Memorial--the vast quantity of stone, the challenges of achieving historical accuracy, the cost. But we've heard little about Walter S. Allward, the genius of a sculptor behind the bold modernist statement And we've heard even less about his message.
