Laguna Beach, Calif. settles into another Saturday. Trendy locals in flashy sports clothes scurry from carwash to dry cleaners to their kids' soccer games. Others linger over lattes at outdoor cafes. Out beyond the boardwalk, sun worshipers, wearing tanning oil and not much else, have staked out their pieces of beach.
Several miles south on Pacific Coast Highway, another Saturday ritual is playing out, one that seems to belong to another time, another place.
