The scope of this article is to outline some recent uses of Antonio Gramsci in order to stress that there has been a distancing of his works from the context that produced themand to propose some possibilities through which the Sardinian intellectual may regain some currency in that same context. It is interesting that Antonio Gramsci is mostly considered passe in Italy; at least he is not viewed as a useful tool for contemporary critiques. This negligence of Gramsci's work goes hand in hand with a neglect of the Southern Question that was such an integral part of his political commitment.
