SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 1995--Monday evening, Gov. Pete Wilson signed legislation clarifying standards of financial liability that certain oil pipeline corporations are required to meet should damage occur as the result of a pipeline leak or discharge.
The bill passed both houses of the Legislature without opposition.
AB 1868, authored by Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Panorama City), requires a corporation that transports crude oil in a pipeline system qualifying as a public utility to be liable for up to $100 million in damages.
The issue of liability emerged as the Pacific Pipeline was moving through the permitting process.
