THIRTEEN post offices across mid-Wales were targeted for closure last night.
A further 24 branches were earmarked to be replaced by a mobile or visiting service.
The latest announcement from Post Office Ltd came at the start of six-week public consultation period.
Offices scheduled to go are in Montgomeryshire, Ceredigion, Brecon and Radnorshire.
The proposed North Wales closures are expected to be announced at the end of July.
A network of 153 post office branches would be retained in mid-Wales, including the 24 new 'outreach' service points.
