Cough and cold meds result in many ED visits.(News)(emergency department)(Brief article)

Every year, an estimated 7,091 children who are under the age of 12 years are treated in emergency departments in the United States for adverse events that are related to over-the-counter and prescription cough and cold medications, according to findings from a retrospective investigation.

Almost two-thirds of these visits were a result of unsupervised ingestions, reported Dr. Melissa K. Schaefer and her associates at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
