Most of the apparitional research on the survival hypothesis has involved determining whether apparitions are subjective (purely created within the mind) or objectively real (existing independently of the mind of the witness). A review of over 100 papers on hallucinations in the professional psychological literature reveals only two (Smythies, 1956; Sarbin & Juhasz, 1967) that display any familiarity with the parapsychological literature on hallucinations.
