ON A cold March day in 1964 I was seduced from my studies at Oxford bythe hysteria surrounding the Gold Cup clash between England's reigning championMill House and the Irish pretender Arkle.
It was my first visit to Cheltenham, but from the moment Arkle surged past MillHouse to the roar of a huge crowd I was captivated by its unique atmosphere.
