PLAIN housewives who do their usual weekend marketing last Friday were at their wit's end when prices of items they need every day at home carried new price tags. There was no previous warning nor a hint that adjusted prices would come. It appears that the consumers are always the last to know.

By 9 o'clock in the morning of that day, the National Price Coordinating Council, presided by DTI Secretary Peter Favila, was convened to assess the situation. If it worsened, provide safeguards, was the main agenda.
