As Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollment continues to climb, a new report prepared for the Kaiser Family Foundation, released Jan. 30, compares the value of extra benefits provided by private fee-for-service (PFFS) and other types of MA plans. On the same day, the Senate Finance Committee heard testimony from several healthcare providers regarding the problems associated with the plans, including lack of accountability, the refusal of many physicians to treat beneficiaries in the plans, and employers converting retirees to MA plans as a way to lower the employers' healthcare costs.
