Q: After reading about problems with Vytorin, is it safe to take or is it true that this drug may cause a stroke?
A: The media blitz surrounding a recent clinical study has generated much misinformation. There was no evidence that Vytorin causes strokes or is unsafe. The clinical study compared Vytorin to Zocor. Vytorin is a combination product containing simvastatin and ezetimibe. Zocor contains simvastatin alone. (Ezetimibe alone is available as Zetia.)
