A PROPORTION of the planned [pounds sterling]3million boost announced last week for the Ulster Scots Agency announced should be spent on the promotion of the Ulster Scots language to bring it into line with the recognition afforded the Irish language, it has been claimed.
City Grand Treasurer of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, William Wray, on Monday said the cash boost was not only "a step in the right direction", but should in part be used to promote the language. His call was echoed by Ulster Scots poet William Burgess.
"Anything that can promote culture and encourage it, especially in the younger generations, has to be encouraged."
