A HARRY Potter book sold by Wellingborough Library for just [pounds sterling]2 in 1999 was snapped up at auction yesterday - for [pounds sterling]4,000.

The first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was sold by Northamptonshire County Council's library service as part of a book clearance nearly 10 years ago.

Because it was in poor condition it was sold for "less than [pounds sterling]2", but at Christie's auction room in London yesterday the same book was sold to a private investor for [pounds sterling]4,000.
