When I entered the doctoral program in Women's Studies five years ago, I would never have envisioned myself becoming part of an international collaboration working to improve women's health around the globe. I became involved with transnational teaching partnerships indirectly, through my work on the gendered aspects of visual representations in contemporary media across cultures. I viewed teaching visual literacy as a means of encouraging culturally informed, responsible citizenship, and I wanted to know which pedagogies would be most effective with my undergraduate students.
