AS A child, I lived in Ealing, West London. My school was aquarter-of-amile from the Great Western main line to the West. Our morningclasses finished at noon, the time the Torbay Express left Paddington.
We often raced through the roads to see the train. It was hauled by a KingClass locomotive and as it approached, we looked for the bell which would tellus that on such an occasion it was headed by No 6000, King George V. The bellhad been presented when the locomotive had been to America.
My grandfather worked for the GWR (God's Wonderful Railway) and enthused aboutits innovations.
