Poverty still rampant in Celtic Tiger Ireland
IRELAND is still a long way from being a fair and just society despite the Celtic Tiger boom years, a major report shows.
Many have benefited little from the boom times, CORI Justice said in a socio-economic review which painted a bleak picture of inequality in 21st century Ireland.
It challenged government policy makers to tackle poverty, especially among the working poor. The religious organisation report shows that:
u 720,774 Irish people -- 17pc of the total population -- have incomes below the standard poverty line of '11,400 for a single person and '26,400 for a household of four;
