If Charl Langeveldt had been chosen on merit - as he should have been - he would be in India right now and happy of that. He chose not to go because he was told he was displacing a teammate, whom he considers a better Test bowler, on racial grounds.

Some people think that is okay - get into the team whichever way you can - but then they don't know about teams.

It is no coincidence that some other sportswriters, black and white, feel the same way as I do. Perhaps we are naive or maybe we are privileged in that we have had a fleeting insight into the mystifying dynamics of a sports team.
