AN ARMED man, who threatened to cut off police officers' heads with a Samurai sword during a siege at his Newmarket flat, has escaped a jail term.
Forty-seven-year-old Anthony Clark, 47, of St Anthony, Icewell Hill, triggered a major operation involving armed police two days before Christmas when, armed with the sword together with an axe, a rapier sword, a meat cleaver and knives, he locked himself in his flat and refused to come out.
Clark, who at an earlier hearing admitted charges of affray, assaulting Sgt Steven Fisk, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage, appeared before magistrates at Bury St Edmunds on Thursday.
