In the original 1969 heist film "The Italian Job," a 36-year-old Michael Caine used three snazzy Mini Coopers to steal a fortune. In the new heist film "Flawless," a 75-year-old Caine's felonious vehicle of choice is a janitor's cart.
Ah, the indignities of old age.
But Caine's presence, as it so often does, enlivens director Michael Radford's "Flawless" from being a stylish but routine heist film into something that's pretty entertaining. There's something just compulsively watchable about him, especially in a role like this, where he's the smartest man in the room pretending to be the simplest.
