A co-production with Utah Opera and Arizona Opera, Vancouver Opera's Ariadne auf Naxos struck just the right balance between the serious and the comic. A near-perfect cast took charge of the stage, while Jonathan Darlington and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra generated a rich carpet of sound from this gorgeous score.

David Gately's production, along with Robin Vest's innovative yet traditional sets, put a refreshing stamp on the proceedings, letting the drama unfold unimpeded by any directorial concepts. The Prologue took place in an elegant but sparse reception area, setting the piece firmly in the time of Maria Teresa's Vienna. ...
