CARACAS, Venezuela, Mar. 31, 2008 (IPS/GIN) -- The antagonistic relationship between Venezuela's commercial media and government overshadowed this year's midyear meeting of the Inter American Press Association, which was held in Caracas.

The association represents newspaper owners in Latin America.

"We can't say there has been a deterioration, because at the meeting in Miami, six months ago, there were more reports of tension and murders in the region," said Gonzalo Marroqu n, chairman of the association's press freedom committee.
